Moisture Sensor Not Reading Moisture
This is when the moisture sensor is not reading moisture. This is not a communication error or field issue but the actual sensor is having difficulties getting information to the controller. Messages & Alerts: Device Moisture Sensor Bad Reading
If the area looks healthy, pour water over the area where the sensor is buried or turn on a valve that should wet the area and see if the moisture changes
If the Moisture Sensor does not register moisture or update the moisture reading, dig up the moisture sensor to take to the controller for further evaluation
If the Moisture Sensor does change then we know it was just not receiving enough moisture to cause a measured change
Troubleshooting
In Field Troubleshooting
- Check the area of the Moisture Sensor
- See if its damp or dry
- If the area looks healthy then pour some water or turn on a valve that should wet the area and see if the moisture changes
- If the Moisture Sensor does not register the moisture or change the moisture reading then dig up the moisture sensor to take to the controller for further troubleshoot
- If the Moisture Sensor does change then we know it was just not receiving enough moisture to change
Troubleshooting
At the Controller
- Clean and dry the Moisture sensor after digging it up
- Power the controller down
- Disconnect the two wire field wiring
- Connect the Moisture Sensor directly to the two wire ports
- Confirm the controller can communicate with the Moisture sensor
- Go to Self Test
- Test Single Two-Wire Devices
- Confirm there is a response from the Moisture Sensor
If the test for the moisture sensor is responsive and we are able to get a response from the device please continue with the steps
If the moisture sensor is not responding or we receive unable to communicate with this device errors then please stop here and refer to the RMA article
- While the moisture sensor is directly connected to the controller put the Moisture sensor in a bucket of water or pour some water on the sensor
- If the sensor registers the Moisture change then the Moisture Sensor is fine
