Blowing Out the System
- Shut off the water supply.
- Shut down backflow device.
- 50 PSI is the recommended air pressure when blowing out the system. The size of an irrigation system will determine the actual air compressor size and PSI needed to effectively blow out the hydraulics.
- Connect the air line before the first valve.
- Tip: Create a Blowout program in the controller. Blow out each zone sequentially, based on the site, to maximize the effectiveness of removing any remaining water.
- Turn off the compressor before closing the valve on each zone.
Protect devices in the Field
- Drain the backflow device. (Even the slightest amount of water can potentially damage certain back flow devices.)
- Pressure Transducer – If this is located “at the top of the T” it would not collect water that could freeze and damage it. If it is oriented in a way that it could collect water within its gaps, remove it.
- Inspect all splices in valve boxes or where possible. Make sure they are pointing upward. Again, anything that could collect and keep water in small spaces could freeze and damage them. Adjust or re orient them so they can’t trap any remaining water not blown out.
The Controller
- Make a back up to both BaseManager and a USB drive if possible.
- Consider turning the device off in the field vs remotely which overrides being turned on or off remotely.
- Sensors will continue to collect data which can bring valuable agronomic soil data to use for next season. Ex: Soil temperature and moisture data for identifying ideal time to turn on the system.
- Tip: Make notes from this process to make any improvements, firmware updates, and or repairs/adjustments.
